| Pick up time: 9:30 am We begin our sightseeing tour of the island in the Pampatar/Porlamar area, Casas del Sol, Playa El Angel, Costa Azul, La Caracola beach and lagoon, El Morro, downtown shopping district and new Cruise Port. Then on to El Valle, a small town in a green valley with an historic old church where the patron saint of the Island (Virgen del Valle) is visited. The church and plaza are surrounded by little art and craft stores as well as food stands. From there we will drive up to La Sierra where we will see some of the most dramatic views. Here we will make a brief stop and walk through the national park Cerro Copey and admire the great views and old trees. Next we will stop for fruit drinks at a small restaurant with a wonderful view and then continue on to La Asuncion, the state capital, where we will also visit the old castle “Castillo Santa Rosa”, where the local heroin Luisa Caceres was jailed by the Spaniards during the independence war. Continuing on we will pass through downtown and visit the Plaza Bolivar and the Cathedral (Oldest church on Margarita) from the 1600. Beyond this area we will drive trough the area where the modern government buildings are located, the Coliseum (the sport arena) and on to the Guacuco/Guarame area with its popular beach areas, nice homes and complexes situated between the mountains and the sea. Next is a stop for Lunch at Los Tejados restaurant, a peaceful place with excellent food and nice views. After lunch, we continue driving through small villages, such as Paraguachi, where we will stop at an Art and Craft store, continue to El Tirano and Puerto Fermin. From there, we will head to Playa El Agua, where we stop for drinks and if time allows, explore the area or just relax and enjoy the beach. (1 hour). Back on the road, we drive to Manzanillo, the northern most spot on the Island. As we wind our way along this scenic route with spectacular views of the sea, mountains, little bays, keys and rocks, we will make 2 stops for vista views. Then on to Playa Zaragoza, Pedro Gonzalez and continue to Juan Griego, where we will visit the castle “Fortin de La Galera” with great views of the bay, and where the famous sunsets are admired everyday. From Juan Griego we will return to Porlamar taking a different scenic route back home via Taguantar or Santa Ana, depending upon the time. This will bring us back to the apartment or place you prefer to stop. We hope you have had a memorable tour and have enjoyed our commentary about the island. Arriving time: 6 pm aprox. |
