Juan Griego

JUAN GRIEGO is a settlement in a wonderful bay on the north
east part of the Island. It is well known for its sunsets. Every
evening the sky is a show of beautiful colors and shapes.
The city itself is a crowded village full of stores, mostly
owned by middle eastern immigrants, which gives a
particular flavor to the area. Shopping is a good deal here
because you can barter with the shop owners. So, along with
the duty free prices you can really get a bargain.
On a hill between the bays of Juan Griego and La Galera
there is the remains of and old Spanish Fort, which is a
perfect location to enjoy the views and the sunsets.
The beach of La Galera is a quite fishing marina with very
good restaurants that specialise in sea food. Near by is Playa
Caribe, a popular beach.
.
Juan Griego is strategically located on the tour routes. From
Playa El Agua in the north west to Juan Griego in the north
east is one of the most scenic routes on the Island.
Between these two points, you will find small fishing villages
with quiet, isolated beach areas. The road is situated
between the mountains and the sea letting you discover
little bays, cliffs and spectacular ocean views.
In the little town of PEDRO GONZALEZ is Varadero Beach with
it's promenade, full of restaurants and cafés. At the near by
beach of Puerto Cruz, there are other hotels and resorts,
From the Juan Griego area you can continue through the
mountains to La Asunción and Porlamar or by the ocean
through the desert-like part of the island, to El Yaque, the
Airport or the Cruise and Ferry Ports.
